Maybe the photo of the year

As a photographer, I am in awe of this shot by Robin van Lonkhuijsen. It captures exactly what the situation is, what the emotions are, and does not come across as gratuitous or intrusive. The lighting and composition are brilliant.

Death, tragedy, and mourning always pose a challenge to portrait photography. How do we witness and record such emotional and deeply personal things without being in the face of people who need space to experience their feelings and without trivializing or sensationalizing things that (I think) ought to be treated with respect and dignity?
